Prints from a printers?

Postby freddyhard on Mon Oct 12, 2009 11:06 pm

has anyone ever had to get a print done from a third party? i have a couple of photos that will need to be printed at A3, but i obviously have an A4. i'm just curious about giving a digital copy to some business to print and still want to retain ©. while i know technically i'll still own it, but once someone else has it then they can do what they want with it. i'm curious has anyone had to deal with this before?

I really don't know how photographers deal with this.
Imagine you have a written license, you leave the file, the do a copy to their HD for modify size and print.
When you go home, they do another thing, illegal.

You have to see it first, and then prove that they have done it. How do you do it?

In the studio, copyrighted material is only used for what it is intended to, for what they've given the file for. My boss is very strict on that. I guess you have to trust

i've found a couple of websites that do this and i suppose all i can go on is the fact they are doing this for a while. like ebay, a sellers history tells you a lot about the seller. anyway if i have any problems i'll post back to let everyone know :!:

I don't know if you got the reply you wanted, but I wanted to throw my two cents in on this one. I think you have the right idea about using someone who has been around for awhile, or more accurately, someone with a good reputation.

I frequently send my images in for print, both online and locally. While I know there is a chance someone can misuse my image, when I use a business with a good reputation I feel secure in the knowledge it is not likely to be worth their time to steal or misuse my image in exchange for their good name. If I am in any doubt I Google the name of the company and look for reviews from publications i am familiar with, or check with the Better Business Bureau. If they are good at what they do, a lack of bad reviews isn't enough for me, I expect to see happy customers and reviews shouting about the good reasons I should use this company :)

I would be interested to know who you ended up using, and if you were satisfied with the results?

i still haven't got any prints done yet. i was seriously contemplating buying an A3 printer, but i cannot justify the cost of one.
i have got the name of a local printer and i have registered with these. i've read through their rules and i don't like them. one of them is that they won't print anything blasphemous. what the hell does that mean? something that might seem funny to one, might be outrageously blasphemous to another - even sharing the same religious beliefs.
i might give the local printer a go, but being from ireland i know © means absolutely nothing to anyone.

i'm not even sure there are any laws on the issue and even if there are the costs would be prohibitive to do anything about a couple of photos.

Well, I don't know about all of your printers in Europe, though I have used business card printing services out of London before. But you might try MyPhotopipe.com, they are reputable, and do fantastic work at a very reasonable price. I can't tell you not to worry about the copyright thing, because it happens,. but I don't think it will happen with a business like this if you have the original file and exif information.

i'll certainly give them a look. i find it difficult to read through the terms and conditions on websites, because they produce a lot of verbiage when it should be clear and simple.
